I'm thrilled. History is in it's making at this very moment in Israel. Physically I'm quite far away, but the wind of change is blowing and it's fragrance reaches all the way to here. It's exciting. Tonight there was the biggest demonstration ever since the day of declaration of the state of Israel in 1948. 400,000 people went out on the street. In Tel Aviv, Jerusalem Haifa and other cities. They went to protest mainly about the economy and about the fact the the rich people are Controlling the economy and that the average person in this country can't live a life of prosperity. The average person is the one who works, does military service, pays taxes and by the end of the month has hardly any money to pay the rent. So people went out to street to say enough is enough. This country is a country of slaves, and that, they can't tolerant anymore.
Boy oh boy. It feels like the beginning of something big. And the people who started this protest are saying that it is just the beginning. If you look at the situation in Israel, you must agree that it is mad. You give birth to a little boy, and you kind of thinking in the back of your mind that in 18 years this young fellow will have to go to the army and he might even die. But you try to stay positive and push it to the back of your mind. That is how people live in Israel. If they have to face reality it is so painful, that they rather don't. So they live life of pushing feelings down. And people are walking in the street and they are angry. They are angry because it is so painful. But for pain there is no time because they need to survive and things are the way they are. We have to protect ourselves, says the father who sends his son to a stupid war.
And the war is not over. The war is going on and on and on and on. And young people go and fight and in the name of I don't know what they become proud of what they do, and when they meet on the weekend they compare who's training was more difficult and who's back is more wounded from carrying heavy duty staff during a tough week of commando. And a mother who sends her son to the army, because she doesn't really have a choice, has to worry. And when she shares it the only reply she hears is, that is how it is. And that's how it is was the way Israelis are living for years. Not really feeling that they can change anything.
So I hope that these wing of change will carry all the things that need to be changed. There is a way for two nations to live together in peace. And there is a way that many people will live in prosperity.
